所有宗教、倫理與精神傳統的本質都是有關仁愛的，仁愛激勵著我們，就像我們希望得到別人的善待般的善待他人。心存仁愛促使我們不倦的試圖減輕彼此的痛苦，走出自我內心的小天地而為他人著想，捍衛每一個神聖、不可侵犯的尊嚴，完全公正、平等、充滿尊嚴，與無分別的善待每一個人。

 The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

在公共生活與私人生活之中設身處地的對待他人，避免不斷的給他人帶來痛苦。出於惡意、狂熱的愛國主義或自私自利而出現的極端言行 ; 剝奪他人的基本權利、利用他人的基本權利或否定他人的基本權利 ; 透過詆毀他人，甚至我們的敵人，煽動仇恨這些都是有違我們基本人性的。我們得承認我們生活之中多缺乏仁愛，甚至一些人還以宗教的名義給人類添增更多的苦難。

 It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others - even our enemies - is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.

在此，我們呼籲全人類，恢復仁愛在倫理和宗教中的核心地位，恢復古時的原則，將埋下暴力、仇恨或輕蔑種子的經文解釋視為不合理的解讀，確保青年人接受到的有關於其它傳統、宗教和文化的訊息是準確的、充滿尊敬的，鼓勵正面欣賞文化和宗教的多元性，悲憫所有人類苦難，甚至是那些被我們視為敵人的人。

 We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings, even those regarded as enemies.

我們迫切需要讓仁愛成為我們已經極端化的世界中帶來一股清晰的、引人注目、動態的力量。因為作為一種本意上就可以超越自私自利的原則性力量。仁愛可以打破政治、教條、意識形態和宗教的藩籬。生來就深深互相依賴的人類使得仁愛成為彼此關係與完整人性中的基本元素。仁愛是通往啟蒙之路，是創建公正的經濟與和平的國際社會所不可缺少的。

 We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.
